Burt's Bees Honey Lip Balm

E-mail Print PDF

Burt's Bees Honey Lip BalmI must confess, I buy cheap lip gloss.  One thing that I do not splurge on is cosmetics.  You may find me in your local beauty supply store buying the clearest of clear 99¢ lip gloss and I'm okay with that.  When buying these el cheapo glosses (or even a drugstore brand), it is important that you protect your lips.  I made the mistake of NOT protecting my lips and it was not cute!

I tried the tried and true Carmax that we all grew up with, Blistex, you name it, but none compared to this one - Burt's Bees - Honey Lip Balm.  When you first apply it, you'll notice that it is not very smooth.  It has a waxy texture, but that's okay because it does the job.  Just think of it as an extra layer of protection.  This lip balm, has a very light, sweet and natural scent that I think you'll enjoy.

One thing I also like about this lip balm is the fact that I apply one time all day long.  Rarely, do I have a need to reapply.  Now, the gloss I may put on top of it may not last, but underneath it all my lips feel just fine.  And...if you happen to get a little taste of it - not bad.

Investment: Approximately $1.99 USD

Ingredients: Beeswax, helianthus annus (sunflower), seed oil, cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, lanolin, symphytum officinale (comfrey) root extract, flavor, honey, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract, tocopherol, tocopheryl acetate, glycine soja (soybean oil), canola oil

Beautiful Textures: Moisture Butter - Whipped Curl Creme

It was a typical day at the salon and in walks my gorgeous client with a little shopping bag.  I paid it no mind until she spoke.

Client: "Okay, I don't know if this is okay, but I got a new product and wanted your to try it to see what you think."

Me: "Okay, let me take a look." *Flipping over to read label immediately* "Eh, for the most part the ingredients appear to be okay, but there are a few things that are questionable."

Client: "Yeahhhhh..." (She knows me.)

Me: "Let's go for it!"

Packaging

It is really nice.  I've seen the Beautiful Textures line in Sally's and saw the product being used in action at the World Natural Hair Show.  The bright color really makes it stand out and causes a bit on interest.

Fragrance

The product smells heavenly!  It filled my salon with a lovely fragrance.  My mentor stopped in and was taken aback by the amazing fragrance and said that it reminded her of bananas.  It really does smell great!

Jojoba Oil

Deriving from the seed of the jojoba plant, jojoba oil can be found in a number of natural skin and hair care products.  While it is called jojoba oil, it is actually a wax extracted from the seed of the jojoba plant.  The primary reason why it can be found in many hair and skin products is because of its uncanny molecular resemblance to human sebum.

In order to break down the benefits of jojoba oil, it is important to first define a few key terms:

Sebum: Sebum is the ‘natural oil’ that many in the natural hair community fight long and hard to preserve through the use of sulfate-free shampoo and a host or other hair care practices.  Produced by the sebaceous glands, this natural oil (or wax) is designed to coat and protect the hair (and skin) from damage or drying out.  Because of the natural twists and curves of natural hair, the sebum cannot travel the entire length of the hair shaft resulting in dryer hair and a less brilliant sheen.
